How do I find the right therapist for me?

It's important to find the right person for you, which is why I offer an initial assessment session for you to ask any questions, and get a sense of who I am and how I work. There is no obligation to continue with therapy after our first meeting. I hope to be able to offer a supportive space for you whoever you are and whatever you bring. There are also directories where you can find therapists and counsellors with specific identities and experience:

The Black, African and Asian Therapy Network therapist directory: 'We are the UK’s largest independent organisation to specialise in working psychologically, informed by an understanding of intersectionality, with people who identify as Black, African, South Asian and Caribbean'

Pink Therapy directory: 'An online directory of therapists of all sexualities and gender identities who work with gender and sexual diversity clients across the LGBTIQ spectrum from a non-judgmental standpoint'.

Gendered Intelligence directory: 'This directory is a listing of members of Gendered Intelligence’s Network for Therapists and Counsellors who wish to offer their services to trans people (and their families and partners)'.

What happens if I miss or need to cancel an appointment?

How does online therapy work?

For online therapy I use Zoom, which can used on a laptop, PC, tablet or smart phone. You do not need to download any software in advance, I will send you a link by email before each session which opens the online meeting room. You can find out more about online therapy here.

Is it confidential?

Everything that is shared within a therapy session is confidential, with some exceptions. I have regular clinical supervision for my work with clients to ensure my work is professional and ethical. If a situation arises where you or someone else is at risk, I may be required to break confidentiality by law. I may also take brief notes for my own reference during sessions. Please see my privacy notice for details of how I store and process your personal information.
I will not record any sessions we have online, unless it is with prior discussion and explicit consent. I use Zoom for online sessions because it is a secure encrypted video conferencing platform.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of session you need will vary depending on what it is you want to work on, and how you feel therapy is going for you. There is no set number of sessions required, and you are free to stop therapy whenever you want or need to. I can offer therapy either weekly or once every two weeks.

I ask for 24 hours notice for any cancellations of online appointments.

If you miss two appointments in a row I will endeavor to speak with you to discuss whether or not you wish to continue therapy. If I am not able to speak with you I will assume you do not wish to continue .
